Difference between Application Software and System Software

Software is a set of computer programs, procedures and data that tell computer what to do. The difference between application software and system software is as below:

Application Software: It is a set of programs that accomplishes user specific tasks. Word, Excel, Power Point, Paint are examples of application softwares.

System Software: It is a set of programs that controls operation of a computer system. These programs do not solve specific problems but assist users in the use of computer. Operating System, Text Editor, Compiler are examples of system softwares.

  2. Well u can also say opperating system software concerning all programs that should be performed in the computer. eg a whole window xp or vista as well.
